Craftsmanship and Vocational Training
From the Ahi tradition to today: passing the trade from master to apprentice
An ironing machine is a craft: measured by hand, tested by eye, passed from master to apprentice. At Malkan Makina Sanayi ve Ticaret A.Ş., every term we give students from vocational high schools hands-on skills training at the workbench beside our certified master trainers. This page explains how we keep that tradition alive, how we train our students and how we protect them.

The Spirit of Ahilik
Keep your hands honest, your conduct clean and your word true.
Ahilik, the Ahi tradition, is a long-established Anatolian tradition of tradesmen and craftsmen that treats a craft not merely as a livelihood but as a moral order. In it, mastery is measured not only by skill but by honesty, generosity and keeping one’s word. Malkan carries this legacy not as decoration but as a working ethic lived at the workbench every day.
- We do not measure short. Tolerance, testing and the inspection report are our scales.
- We do not deliver faulty work. Work that fails inspection does not leave our door.
- We do not hide what we know. A master regards teaching an apprentice as part of the job.
The Roots of a Plane Tree
A tree with deep roots does not fear the wind.
The journey we began in 1971 now reaches 95 countries. Behind every machine we make, from boiler to press and from table to vacuum motor, stands the same thing: knowledge passed from master to apprentice, hand to hand.
The strength of a plane tree (çınar) lies not in its branches but in its roots. Our roots are our masters, and what feeds those roots is the young people who walk through our door every term. We regard passing the trade to new generations not as a social responsibility project but as Malkan’s reason for being.
Our Certified Master Trainers
Mastery is certified on paper and proven at the workbench.
Our students are trained by masters who hold the master trainer certificate (usta öğretici belgesi) that vocational education legislation requires. This assurance underlies the student agreements we make with schools.
- Every student is trained under the supervision of our certified master trainers.
- Training takes place at the workbench, on real production work, progressing step by step according to the student’s level.
- The student’s progress is monitored together with their school.
Master, Journeyman, Apprentice
The titles have changed; the path has stayed the same.
In the tradition, the apprentice learns both the work and the ethic beside the master; as a journeyman, they begin to carry responsibility for the work; on reaching mastery, they train an apprentice of their own.
Today, this path is walked by the students and trainees who come to us from vocational high schools every term. Skills training is provided under the agreements made with their schools.
Safety First
Where there is steam and pressure, safety comes first.
- Our students receive occupational health and safety training before they start work, and the necessary personal protective equipment is provided to them.
- Students under 18 are not employed in work prohibited by legislation or during night hours.
- The health checks required for fitness for work are carried out by our workplace physician.
Our Students’ Rights
Fair reward for effort, and security.
Our students benefit from the wage and insurance protections provided by vocational education legislation. Training periods and working hours are arranged in accordance with the agreement made with the school and with legislation.
Shoulder to Shoulder with Family and School
The family is a partner in education.
- The parents or guardians of students under 18 are informed in writing when training begins.
- Parents and schools may direct their questions about a student’s training to our training officer.
Personal data of our students and their parents or guardians are processed only to carry out the training, under the privacy notice provided when training begins. Photographs and videos of students are not used for promotional purposes without parental consent.
